March Update

This month has been a trip! I did not dedicate as much time to writing my book as I would have liked due to changes in my employment, launching my website, battling distractions, and experiencing a reading slump and writing dilemma at the same time leaving me annoyed and unmotivated.

First of all, the support I have received upon the launch of my website has been incredible and greatly appreciated! It has been a time-consuming development but completely worth it. Any free time I had this month was focused on this.

Not that I had much free time in the first place. Aside from my full-time position at a local college, I had been working weekends at a nearby retail store that would leave me drained, uninspired, and utterly cranky. I still had plenty of time to write but found it nearly impossible to focus after those shifts. Luckily, I finished out my two-week notice there and began a remote part-time position editing children’s books for a local publisher. I am so fortunate to have been given this opportunity that will enhance my editorial abilities and inspire my writing journey. It was through the retail position where I met my new employer. You never know how life will unfold and who it will bring your way. I will be forever grateful to the retail store as it unexpectedly led me to one of my dream jobs.

Aside from work, I also battled an easily distracted brain, a reading slump, and a writing dilemma all at the same time. After writing nearly thirty pages of my book, I realized that I needed to scrap it all and change the story’s point of view to multiple characters rather than one. The setback was two-fold: one of great irritation as I just wanted to keep writing and one of immense excitement to edit the storyboard again and produce a better written story. I have high hopes that in April I will have the next round of planning for the book completed and will hopefully have started the (next) first draft. As I emerge out of this reading slump, settle into both jobs, and feel more inspired to write, I will be entering April with more enthusiasm and dedication to my book.
